“What a family leaves behind is rarely an object. It is a kind of weather.”

Biography

Cârstea works with the materials that outlive a home.

Andrei Cârstea works between inherited fabric and built structure, assembling fibre, metal and stone into quiet propositions about memory, structure and collapse.

Suspended textiles, faceted steel and raw travertine become arguments rather than ornaments — compressed histories that ask how much weight a gesture can hold before it becomes architecture.

For ALTAR, Cârstea represents a conceptual practice in which cloth, thread and document carry what speech cannot.

Night Vessel — suspended textile installation
Plate I

Night Vessel

2031 Scenario · Hand-dyed silk, waxed linen & steel

A suspended sculpture of sagging, stitched and tensioned black material — vessel, net, skin or collapsed architecture. Fabric as emotional architecture: what can be held when conventional structures fail.

Vector Field — brushed and blackened steel
Plate II

Vector Field

2031 Scenario · Brushed & blackened steel

A vertical composition of intersecting steel planes that lean and cut across one another. Industrial fabrication as a language of tension — a suspended moment of collapse that never arrives.

Fracture / Alignment — travertine and patinated brass
Plate III

Fracture / Alignment

2031 Scenario · Travertine & patinated brass

Broken blocks of porous travertine held in fragile alignment by a precise brass spine. Restoration imagined not as a return to the original, but as a new agreement between broken parts.
